What is Vibration?

Vibration occurs in practically everything.  Even your body vibrates when you walk.  The goal of vibration analysis, on rotating and even some stationary equipment like transformers, is to be able to tell when that vibration has become so adverse that it needs attention to keep from failing and causing damage to the equipment. 

Vibration is also used in balancing.  By adding weight or removinb weight to a rotating mass the vibration levels can be lowered and the equipment will run smoother and longer.
